2026 IBJJF Master North America – Gold & Bronze

It’s always great to compete in the Pyramid! The first time that I competed there was at Worlds in June of 2011.

Today, they host the Master North America tournament right before Worlds. It a good use of setting up everything once for two tournaments.

Competing at Master 7 can be slim pickings at times, but I always seem to run into someone that I’ve not competed against before. With a three man bracket, my first match basically turns out to be a semi-final. It was a full time match where I had back mount most of the time but couldn’t establish a submission.

The Heavyweight final was against my friend Brian, again. We have now fought each other 15 times since I received my black belt in 2021! I secured a sweep with about a minute remaining, going ahead 2-0 for the win!

The absolute division had a total of 11 competitors. The Masters 7 division appears to be growing, which is a good thing.

I won the semi-final via an Ezekiel choke. But got stuck in a smooth reverse triangle in the semi-final to get third place.
