2022 IBJJF Masters Worlds – Gold & Bronze!

The World Master Jiu-Jitsu tournament was held in early September this year by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF). The Wisconsin 360 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu affiliation had nine teammates competing in their respective divisions and weight classes.

The team list above consists of a tough bunch of serious Jiu-Jitsu practitioners, many of whom have put me trough the ringer over the years as we help each other prepare for tournaments such as this one. You steps on the mat alone to compete, but your teammates play a huge part in getting you ready!

The master 6 heavyweight black belt bracket consisted of ten competitors. Because I was a returning world champion in master 6 black belt I received the #1 seed.

The quarterfinal was my first match after the first round bye. I was able to work my way to a reverse crucifix and secure a choke for the win.

The heavyweight final was a real tough battle. I had gone against this man ten times since getting my black belt last year. He had won six of those matches. All wins were very close for both of us.

I won the final by a referee’s decision to become the Master 6 Black Belt heavyweight world champion for a second consecutive year.

My coaches teammates were mat side for this victory, which makes it even sweeter! We have a great group of people that are technical masters on the mat and great friends off of it. I am very thankful to be on such a team.

After winning the heavyweight final, I signed up for the absolute division, which consisted of seven competitors.

After winning the quarterfinal, I lost in the semis to the eventual champion to take 3rd place in the open division.
