I took a quick trip to Dallas to compete in the IBJJF Dallas Summer Open in preparation for the IBJJF Masters Worlds coming up at the end of this month.
Tough matches all around. I won the semi final in the heavyweight division by an arm bar submission.
I had to face my good friend Brian in the heavyweight final. Prior to today we were 7 and 6 against each other at black belt. He pulled guard and has a tough sweep game, which I fell victim to. The match ended with me behind on points with a score of 2-0.
The Master 6 Black Belt open division consisted of 6 competitors, including myself. I drew a bye for the first round. I was able to win the second round on points, 3-0.
The open final turned out to be a repeat of the heavyweight final. Again, I lost on points, 2-0. Hats off to my friend on his double-gold for the day!
